Knitting an Aviator Hat
Because everyone needs a handmade aviator’s hat. This is knit in Knit Picks Swish dk and Biggo that I won in a Holla Knits giveaway. You can see the earflaps and beginning of the brim, below.

This hat’s construction is really interesting. I love making something unlike anything I’ve knit before. It keeps me interested and I’m not quite sure how it will turn out until it is finished. I’m thinking an Amelia Earhart, Karen Blixen, Margaret Bourke-White kind of vibe.

You're making it!!!
I love aviator hats and yours will be amazing! I'm looking forward to it.
I'm so glad you shared this! I found this article about her, too : http://www.sandiegoyesterday.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Ruth_Alexander.pdf
I'm sure you know all of that, but I loved getting a little view of your family history, and thought others might like to read. I saw a photo of her on Pinterest titled Ruth Alexander- Aviator and Total Badass 🙂
Indeed, I am! I'm going to try yo finish the lining this weekend. I think it will come in handy for all these crazy, cold evening soccer games.
Thanks, Elena! It fits, now it just gave to finish all those little loops. That's a fun, methodical process, so I don't mind.
I've wanted to make one for a long time, but am certain that it would look absolutely awful on me. After seeing all your lovely pics, I am starting to reconsider my stance. I look forward to seeing the finished product.

I'm not sure if anyone is flattered by an aviator style hat. But they are fun to wear. Of course, no one can take me too seriously with those fluffy, blue loops hanging over my face :). But I think you'd like making it and wearing it, Cherry.
